Identifying Pet's Illnesses
When our furry loved ones are feeling under the weather, it can be challenging to for us to detect this. After all, they cannot just simply tell us they are unwell. It is important therefore for pet owners to diligently monitor for indications of ill health.

Key signs of illness to watch out for include:

·       Abnormal behaviour, such as lethargy, withdrawing, sudden agitation, shaking or aggression, etc.

·       Loss of appetite, excessive, increased water consumption, marked weight loss or gain

·       Abnormal, difficult or uncontrolled urination or bowel movements

·       Unusual discharge from body orifices such as nose, eyes or ears

·       Unusual lumps, particularly if they are growing in size

·       Limping, stiffness, difficulty getting up or down

·       Excessive head shaking, scratching, licking or biting any part of body

·       Open sores, hair loss, red or inflamed skin, dandruff or ragged, dull coat

·       Foul breath, disproportionate tarter deposits on teeth or sensitive mouth/teeth

·       Coughing, sneezing, vomiting, or diarrhea

Behavioural changes due to illness can be subtle, particularly in cats. If you think your pet is acting 'off', keep a close eye on them for other symptoms. It is best to err on the side of caution, especially with very young or senior pets. If you think your pet is sick, don't hesitate to have them seen by a veterinarian. If your pet is just a bit 'off', but basically ok, no harm done. If your pet really is ill, it's always better to catch things early.
